Yellow Fever & Travel Vaccination

Your certificate is valid on day ten, not the day you fly.

A yellow fever certificate takes effect ten days after the vaccination, so the date on your boarding pass is not the date that matters — the date ten days before it is. We are a Ministry of Health approved yellow fever vaccination centre at Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, open 24 hours. You leave the same visit with the vaccine given and the international certificate stamped.

What to Expect

One visit. You leave with the certificate.

Yellow fever vaccination is a single appointment. The certificate is written, signed and stamped before you walk out — there is no second trip to collect anything.

Step 01

Message us before you come

Send your destination and travel dates on WhatsApp. We confirm the vaccine is in stock for the day you want, and hold a slot. Coming without checking is the one way to waste a trip.

Step 02

Short consultation

The doctor checks your destination against what is actually required, reviews your medical history for anything that rules the vaccine out, and confirms which other travel vaccines your trip calls for.

Step 03

Vaccination and certificate

The vaccine is given, then the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis is completed by hand, signed by the doctor and stamped with the centre's uniform stamp.

Step 04

Bring your passport

Your name on the certificate has to match your passport exactly, or it can be questioned at the border. Bring the passport you will actually travel on, not a photocopy.

Why It Has To Be Here

Not every clinic can give this one.

Yellow fever is the only vaccine in Malaysia with a restriction of this kind. It may only be administered at a vaccination centre approved by the Ministry of Health, and only an approved centre holds the uniform stamp that makes the international certificate valid. A certificate without that stamp is not a certificate.

Approved centre

Klinik Dr. Prevents Jalan Ipoh appears on the Ministry of Health list of approved yellow fever vaccination centres. Ask us for the reference and we will send it.

WHO-prequalified vaccine

We use the vaccine recognised for international certification purposes, held under monitored cold chain from delivery to administration.

Certificate completed correctly

Name as printed in your passport, dates written in the required format, clinician's handwritten signature, uniform stamp. Border officials reject certificates for paperwork errors, not medical ones.

Open through the night

Travellers do not always plan on office hours. Our Jalan Ipoh clinic runs 24 hours, so a late realisation on a Sunday is still a solvable problem.

Do You Actually Need It

Three different reasons you might be asked.

Requirements are set by the country you are entering, not by your airline and not by us. They fall into three groups, and which group you are in changes what you need to carry.

Required from every arriving traveller

A number of countries in West and Central Africa ask for proof of yellow fever vaccination from all arrivals, regardless of where you flew in from. If your destination is on this list, the certificate is not optional.

  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • Angola
  • DR Congo
  • Cameroon
  • Côte d'Ivoire
  • Uganda
  • Liberia

Required only if you arrive from a risk country

Many more countries ask for the certificate only from travellers arriving from, or transiting through, a yellow fever risk area. This is where routing matters — a short layover can trigger the requirement.

  • India
  • Thailand
  • Indonesia
  • Philippines
  • South Africa
  • Egypt
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Malaysia

Recommended, but not demanded

Parts of South America carry a genuine risk of yellow fever without requiring a certificate at the border. Nobody will stop you — but the reason to vaccinate here is the disease, not the paperwork.

  • Brazil
  • Peru
  • Colombia
  • Bolivia
  • Argentina (north)

Coming back into Malaysia counts too. Malaysia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination from travellers arriving from, or transiting through, countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission, and travellers are advised to report to the Health Office at the point of entry on arrival. Malaysians travelling to endemic countries are advised to be vaccinated at least ten days before departure.

Requirements change. Send us your full itinerary — including layovers — and we will check the current position for your specific route before you commit to anything.

The Rest Of The Trip

Yellow fever is rarely the only one you need.

Most people who come to us for a yellow fever certificate leave having covered two or three other things their destination calls for. Ask about all of it in one consultation rather than discovering the gap at the airport.

Certificate required

Yellow fever

Single dose, valid for life. Certificate effective from day ten. Available only at our Jalan Ipoh centre.

Certificate required

Meningococcal ACWY

Mandatory for Umrah and Hajj, with a certificate that must be dated at least ten days before arrival in Saudi Arabia and is valid for several years.

Commonly advised

Typhoid

Recommended for South Asia, South East Asia and much of Africa, particularly where you will be eating outside hotels and restaurants.

Commonly advised

Hepatitis A

Food and water borne, and the most common vaccine-preventable infection travellers actually pick up. Two doses give long-term cover.

Commonly advised

Hepatitis B

Worth having for longer postings, medical or field work, or anywhere you might need unplanned medical treatment.

Depends on the trip

Rabies

A pre-exposure course for remote postings, long stays, cycling and trekking trips, or anywhere reliable post-exposure treatment is far away.

Depends on the trip

Tetanus, diphtheria, polio

Usually a booster rather than a new course. Some countries still ask for polio documentation for longer stays.

Ask us

Influenza and others

Destination-specific vaccines and seasonal cover, assessed against your route, length of stay and what you will be doing there.

Timing is the part people get wrong. Several of these are multi-dose courses given weeks apart, and a few cannot be given on the same day as others. Four to six weeks before departure is the comfortable window. If you have less than that, tell us how much less — there is usually still something worth doing.

If The Vaccine Is Not Right For You

Some travellers should not have this vaccine.

Yellow fever vaccine is a live vaccine, and there are situations where the risk of giving it outweighs the benefit. That decision belongs to a doctor who has seen your history, which is exactly what the consultation is for.

Infants under nine months

Not given below nine months of age. Between nine and twelve months it is a considered decision rather than a routine one.

Weakened immune system

Whether from a condition, from treatment, or after removal of the thymus. Bring your specialist's letter or medication list.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Generally avoided unless the risk of exposure is high and unavoidable, and then only after a specific discussion with a doctor.

Severe egg allergy

The vaccine is produced in eggs. A history of severe reaction to egg needs to be assessed before anything is given.

There is a route for travellers who cannot be vaccinated. Where a doctor assesses that the vaccine is medically contraindicated, a medical waiver letter can be issued for you to present at the border. Acceptance is at the discretion of the destination country, so this is a considered clinical document rather than a formality — and it is written after an assessment, not on request.

Age over sixty is not by itself a reason to refuse the vaccine, but a first dose later in life carries a different risk profile and is discussed with you before anything is given.

For Employers

Sending a crew, not a person.

Oil and gas, plantation, engineering, construction, NGO and mission deployments to West Africa and South America all run into the same wall: a fixed mobilisation date, a group of people, and a certificate that needs ten days it does not have.

  • Group scheduling built backwards from your mobilisation date, so every certificate is valid before wheels up
  • Blocks booked outside working hours, including overnight, so you are not standing a crew down for a clinic visit
  • Stock confirmed and reserved against your headcount before you commit to dates
  • A single consolidated invoice, with a certificate register you can hand to your HSE team
  • The rest of the travel vaccine set covered in the same session, plus pre-deployment medicals across our nine clinics
  • Individual contraindications identified early and escalated, not discovered on the day

Tell us the date and the headcount

Send us the mobilisation date, the destination, and how many people. We will come back with a schedule that works backwards from the ten-day rule and confirms stock against your numbers.

Where To Go

Yellow fever is Jalan Ipoh only.

Only our Jalan Ipoh clinic is approved to give the yellow fever vaccine and issue the certificate. Every other travel vaccine on this page is available across all nine clinics — message us first and we will tell you which branch to go to.

Frequently Asked

Common questions.

How many days before travel do I need the yellow fever vaccine?
The international certificate becomes valid ten days after the date of vaccination. If you are vaccinated fewer than ten days before you arrive at a country that requires proof, the certificate is not yet valid on arrival. Plan to be vaccinated at least ten full days before your arrival date.
Can any clinic in Malaysia give the yellow fever vaccine?
No. In Malaysia, yellow fever vaccine may only be administered at a vaccination centre approved by the Ministry of Health, and only an approved centre may issue the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis with its official stamp. Klinik Dr. Prevents Jalan Ipoh is an approved centre.
How long is the yellow fever certificate valid?
Under the International Health Regulations, a yellow fever certificate is valid for the life of the person vaccinated, beginning ten days after the date of vaccination. Booster doses are not routinely required for travel purposes. Keep the certificate with your passport — replacing it means being seen again.
Do I need a yellow fever certificate to return to Malaysia?
Malaysia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination from travellers arriving from, or who have transited through, countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Travellers are also advised to report to the Health Office at the point of entry on arrival. This catches people out on the way home, not on the way out.
Berapa harga vaksin yellow fever? What does it cost?
Message us on WhatsApp and we will confirm the current cost of the vaccination and certificate before you travel to the clinic, along with the cost of any other travel vaccines your destination calls for. We will also confirm stock for the date you want, which is the part worth checking first.
My flight is in five days. Is it pointless now?
Not necessarily, and it depends on your route. The certificate will not be valid on arrival if you arrive within ten days of vaccination, but the answer changes if the country requiring it comes later in your itinerary, if the requirement applies only to arrivals from a risk area, or if a medical waiver is appropriate. Send us your full itinerary and we will tell you honestly whether coming in helps.
Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?
The clinic is open 24 hours and you can walk in, but please message first. Yellow fever vaccine supply is tightly managed worldwide and we will not have it available every hour of every day. A message beforehand is what turns a wasted trip into a fifteen-minute visit.
What do I need to bring?
Your passport, because the name on the certificate must match it exactly. Bring any previous vaccination records or an old yellow card if you have one, your itinerary including layovers, and a list of any regular medication. If you have a condition affecting your immune system, bring your specialist's letter.
Are there side effects?
Most people have nothing worse than a sore arm, and some have mild headache, muscle aches or a low fever for a few days. Serious reactions are rare but real, which is why the vaccine is only given after a doctor has assessed you and why we ask you to wait a short period at the clinic afterwards.
I need this for a group of staff. Who do I speak to?
Message us with the mobilisation date, destination and headcount. Group bookings are scheduled backwards from the ten-day rule, stock is reserved against your numbers, and you receive a single invoice and a certificate register for your HSE records.
